Charis Lambert, one of the London Area Regional Coordinators, hosted a Messy Meet-up this month with a messy colleague, Louise. Like the one run by Graham Nunn in Maidstone, it's an informal, easy-to-run evening simply to get local Messy Church leaders together and - as Charis says - to encourage them.
Hi Lucy
Just a quick catch up after the Messy Meet-up last night. Louise Porter from Stoneleigh, Epsom and I hosted it and tried to invite as many as we could that have previously been to visit our Messy Churches. We ended up with twelve people from five different churches in our area. All doing Messy Church with very different experiences and set ups. One is aiming at ages 3 to 7, based on the average ages of the kids of the helpers. Another is a very trad Cof E with no kitchen, fixed pews and a very forward thinking curate. He has vowed never to use glitter again, however, as the carpet in church is still not back to normal! Lady from another church really struggling to keep going with very little support but felt really encouraged after a bit of discussion with us all. So great evening!!!
Everyone left really encouraged and wanting to meet up again to swap ideas and encourage each other so plans afoot to do that in the autumn term. Also want to organise a local Messy Fiesta!!- early 2010?
Realise that I've typed the word encourage quite a few times so praying that as regional coordinator I can help a bit with that!
